Thechwani or Crushed radish roots and Potato curry recipe with step by step photos – a simple homely curry with potatoes. This is an easy and tasty Crushed radish roots and Potato curry that can be made quickly, Gluten-free and vegan I was unable to find mountain radish today so I am using normal radish for this.

The Thechwani Recipe come originally from Uttarakhand. Potatoes and radish root (pahari mula) are cooked in varied masalas and chillies. The radish root or the potatos are never cut, but crushed into pieces in this recipe.

Thechwani is one of those recipes that is full of memories for me. Growing up, mom used to make this easy Thechwani for all of us. The combo of rice and this delicious Thechwani ( Crushed radish roots and Potato curry ) would be comforting and till today its one of my favorite meal.

For this recipe i am sharing my magical spice. Easy and quick simple to make this homemade Masala.

Equipment

  • Stone Grinder or grinder machine

Ingredients
  

  • 300 gram potatoes peeled and crushed
  • 100 gram radish roots pahadi mula
  • 1 tbsp red chili powder for tadka
  • 1 tbsp turmeric powder for tadka
  • 1 tbsp coriander Powder for tadka
  • 3 tbsp cumin whole for tadka, and homemade masala
  • garlic whole for tadka, and homemade masala
  • salt, or to taste
  • 4 cup spring water
  • 3 tbsp homemade masala whole cumin, sarson seeds, and garlic
  • Fresh tomatoes roughly chopped
  • 3 tbsp mustard oil or vegetable oil
  • 1 tbsp mustard seeds for tadka

Instructions
 

  • Make small pieces of pahadi mula (radish roots) and potato using a stone grinder.

  • Once your pahadi mula (radish roots) and potato is done keep a side.

  • Prepare a homemade masala take some peeled garlic, Yellow mustard seeds, and whole cumin Then simply throw your spices in the grinder, mix it up Well. once your magical masala is done keep a side.

  • Saute cumin seeds, jakhya seeds (rai seeds) and chopped garlic.
  • Add potatoes, radish roots, tomatoes, and salt, add spices turmeric powder, red chili powder, coriander powder.

  • Now, add dry Homemade spices and water.
  • Cover with the lid and cook for 20 minutes.
  • Thechwani is ready before serve check salt.
